动物跟人类不一样，它们不会批判人类的行为，进一步帮小朋友建立自信，让孩子更勇于表达自己

We are extremely grateful to the family who went out of their way to make a trip out of going from Kuala Lumpur to come to our shelter in Johor to give a fur baby a new forever home! With their permission, we are now sharing their adoption story with you.

A young boy from the family had been diagnosed with autism, and as his parents watched him grow up, they thought it best for him to have an animal companion, and through interacting with the pet, learn to stabilize his emotions. And what better companion is there than a dog?

Animals and mankind are different in the sense where animals won’t seek to punish or judge us for our behaviour, rather, will only love us and support us, and in this case, help the child build his confidence and help him express himself.

A quote from the boy’s mother:

“For us parents of autistic children, I wouldn’t recommend buying puppies, because taking care of a special needs child can be challenging enough as it is, and if we were to take care of a puppy, we might find our plates too full.

“I also don’t mind sharing that if you happen to be looking for a dog for your special needs children, it would be worth thinking about adopting before buying a dog.”

From the bottom of our hearts here at HOPE, we would like to wish you all the best in your future endeavors! There are many societies supporting families with special needs children, and we hope that in these modern times, everyone would be able to lend a helping hand wherever necessary.

We can’t help but feel proud that our rescued dog proved to be able to help children. Dogs are innocent and pure by nature, and it is hoped that everyone would have nothing but love and care to show them. #AdoptNeuterNeverAbandon

Homeless & Orphan Pets Exist (H.O.P.E.) is a non-profit organization and no-kill shelter that aims to improve welfare of strays and abandoned pets around Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

Our four core missions are rescuing, re-homing, sterilization and increasing public awareness of pet ownership and responsibilities. Currently, we are caring for approximately 700 abandoned animals in our shelter located at Lima Kedai.
