Hope that this will be the last extension of MCO … Under the strict control of MCO, many ill furkids were banned from passing through roadblocks and could not go to the veterinary clinic in time, and they passed away during MCO … We felt the need to share to let more people know about this.

At noon two days ago, volunteer transported a cat with breathing difficulty to the Nusa Bestari Veterinary Clinic in JB.

The clinic was just less than a kilometer ahead, but the police officers at the roadblock did not listen to anyone’s reasons of travelling and yelled out in a very bad manner, asking all vehicles must u-turn to leave.

Worried about the cat couldn’t be able to sustain for long, the volunteer was forced to turn back again to the roadblock station, and get off the car to show the police our NGO certificate and explain that the cat is currently in a critical condition.

That’s a need to go to that clinic which is the nearest one that has the X-ray machine. The situation is a last resort. Begging for police that animals are life too, and the clinic is just at front.

But all the police officers refused to listen, and continued to wave their hands with a bad attitude (volunteer were driven away like a beggar…)

The veterinarian also told us desperately that even the veterinarian who wore a veterinary gown and showed all the veterinary documents to the police, the police told him that he did not believe that the veterinary clinic was still open, and the vet was not allowed to pass.

(it was only in the afternoon at that time, and veterinary clinic is “essential service” and is allowed to open)

The veterinarian was actually rushing to assist a cat’s Caesarean section. As the clinic had only a few employees allowed to work during MCO period, but C-Section required more manpower to help the newborn baby to perform resuscitation. In the end three babies died, only one survived …

The veterinarian asked sadly, why is their profession so disrespected? And we at the frontline of rescue wish to ask, why animal life is so despised?

In foreign countries, although the people are also under movement control, but the government allows pet owners to walk their dogs, which means that even if humans are in great trouble, but animal welfare should never be ignored, this is a manifestation of respect for life.

We all understand that we are in a critical condition now, but animals have as much right to live as human beings.

When suffering comes to human beings, it is suffering. But when suffering comes to other lives, human beings choose to ignore.

We really hope that the animals’ status can be promoted in Malaysian society. We’re not sure if you are experiencing the same problem in your area’s roadblocks?

P.S. This is just a sharing and we’re not blaming the officers. We appreciate efforts of every frontliner.

We went to the police station the next day to figure out the reason, and the answer we got is that we need to get permit from the related government department, or sometimes it depends on the roadblock police officers whether to give the permission to pass through.
