As We Continue To Face The Challenges That Arise I..

As we continue to face the challenges that arise in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Soi Dog Foundation pledge that no homeless animals will be left behind or forgotten.

Recently, the island of Phuket went in lockdown and the sub-district level traveling has been restricted until the end of April. Thanks to your amazing support, we were able to distribute an emergency food supply of over 11 tonnes of food to stray animal feeders across Phuket. Our animal rescue vehicles delivered in total 610 large bags of dog and cat food to feeding areas such as temples and to the feeders directly, and is estimated to last around six weeks. Despite the lockdown, we continue to ask communities to help the vulnerable dogs and cats during these trying times.

There are variety of ways we can all help the dogs and cats in our neighbourhoods:

✔️Leave out bowls of food and clean water, without causing any public health violations.

✔️Monitor the street animals around your area, and report them to a local shelter if their condition is life threatening and they need emergency care (e.g. they are bleeding uncontrollably or are having trouble breathing). For any minor injuries, a simple first aid kit can do wonders. However, take care of yourself first and remember your safety is just as important as that of the animal you are trying to help.

✔️Despite false internet rumours, there is no evidence whatsoever that dogs and cats can transmit COVID-19 to humans. (This has been confirmed by the World Health Organisation.) However, it is important to implement basic hygiene measures before and after touching them as well as when you handle their food. This is for their safety as much as yours.

✔️Please share this post far and wide, wherever you are, whether your neighbourhood has stray animals or not. It is important that everyone, everywhere comes together to care for the animals who are dependent on us today more than ever.
