TNRM – ONE OF SPCA’S CRITICAL SERVICES STILL RUNNING
Even in challenging times, our TNRM (Trap-Neuter-Release-Manage) field officers are on the ground doing vital work in looking out for our community dogs in Singapore. This job is no walk in the park. To humanely trap dogs for sterilisations, some of their tasks include trekking through woodland (filled with all sorts of critters) to set up enclosures and traps.
Towards the end of 2018, SPCA was appointed the lead animal welfare group for the government-funded nationwide TNRM programme to sterilise at least 70% of street dogs within five years, and we’re working closely with NParks and other animal welfare organisations.
After the dogs are trapped and brought to SPCA for sterilisations and vaccinations, they will be cared for until they’re fit to be released at the same location where they were found. Some TNRM dogs we discovered were badly wounded and required treatment and surgeries in SPCA’s clinic too! If they are suitable for rehoming, we will do our best to find them a loving home.
Many of these dogs only trust their caregivers. If you’re a caregiver or are aware of street dogs in your area and want to help, please contact us at tnrmmanager@spca.org.sg.
