Shakespeare Once Wrote Whats In A Name? Well For G..

Shakespeare once wrote ‘what’s in a name?’ well for Gibson, formerly known as Zwikker, there was a great story behind his. Zwikker was admitted to Soi Dog’s hospital back in 2016 when he was hit by a speeding car. Despite his recovery, he was constantly licking and chewing at his paw which caused open wounds. In 2019, he was adopted by a lovely couple, Faith and Chris, but the tricky part was deciding if he could cope with the long journey to the United States without chewing his foot off. Soi Dog’s adoptions team worked tirelessly on ways to prevent such an incident when they came up with an idea to make him a ‘dog bootie’ to wear during the trip. The custom made bootie was made from one of the staff’s guitar case with the word ‘Gibson’ on it. He ended up flying without it but thankfully arrived safe and sound. The adopters decided to change his name to Gibson, in recognition of Soi Dog’s commitment and dedication to getting him home.

“Gibson is doing well! He sends his very best to all of his Soi family and friends in Thailand. Overall I don’t think I could ask for better at this point. Gibson is coming along with all aspects of adapting to living in a completely different part of the world, and under a roof with another dog, two cats, two birds and two humans. He’s almost completely ignoring the cats (usually). Most importantly, his foot is very close to being completely healed. I am under no illusion that the problem is resolved, but it’s a step in the right direction. The next challenge will be to find a regime that works to discourage him from licking. I also have some old socks that I have been putting on him to keep his foot covered. He leaves it alone for the most part (unless he gets bored or anxious, then we sometimes end up with a holey sock). One step at a time. Beyond that, he’s a love. I don’t think he’s met a person he doesn’t like. He’s very eager to please and cuddle with whomever will fuss over him. He’s very food driven, which will be very helpful when we start to work on some basic obedience. We absolutely love him and have been thrilled to have things work out so well. Thank you again for all of your hard work and dedication for Gibson (Zwikker) and all of the Soi dogs! It provides an opportunity for them to enjoy life in ways they never would have been able to otherwise.”
