Rescued Male Tiger In Belum-Temengor

In 2009, WWF-Malaysia’s Wildlife Protection Unit (WPU), which conducts regular patrols together with PERHILITAN in Belum-Temengor, stumbled upon a five-year old male tiger with its badly injured paw caught in a snare. The tiger was rescued and taken to the Malacca Zoo for treatment, but a week later it died of its wounds.

Illegal hunting in the Belum-Temengor area and the demand for tigers continue to drive poachers into our forests to kill the remaining ones. The Malayan tiger was classified as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List in 2015. Less than 200 now remain. We should not allow them to suffer the same grim fate. The time to act is now.

If we want to save our Malayan tiger from extinction, we must rally together and make tiger conservation a national priority. As Earth Hour approaches, #Connect2Earth and raise your voice for nature by pledging to save our Malayan tigers at wwf.org.my/EarthHour

Many thanks for your support. Please take care and stay safe.
