Tomorrow is International Day of Forestry.
In conjunction with this annual celebration, let’s give a shout out to Lambir Hills National Park. It is one of the totally protected areas in Sarawak.
Do you know that this park is known as one of the world’s most complex and diverse forest ecosystem? Scientists have discovered over 1,000 tree species in about 0.5 sq. km. That’s a lot of trees! There are two major forest types in Lambir – mixed dipterocarp and kerangas forests – and they support an abundance of flora and fauna, as well as a reservoir for those living in Miri city. Lambir Hills National Park also provides an important site for long-term research into the ecology of Sarawak’s lowland rain forests.
