Does Coco look like he is begging for food?

Coco, the #LongTailedMacaque has been conditioned to associate humans with food and that’s a bad thing. Monkeys are wild animals and ought to remain wild, with a healthy fear of humans. Some unaware people think monkeys do not have food, and end up feeding them.

In reality, this is the worst to do. There are also people who think that they need to use food to lure them away from where they want them to be – this is only a positive reinforcement and makes them want to return for more.

What we can do as a community is to let them be, appreciate them from a distance, and never be feeding them; directly or indirectly. Our wild neighbours will continue to forage for their own food which is sufficiently available for them. Let’s all do our part in keeping them wild!
