HAPPY TALES: KOKOH, ADOPTED BY ARIESSA
Ariessa: “Life is busy when you’re holding a full-time job, studying part-time, and looking after pets, but animals make my life so much better. To anyone reading this, I hope you can open your heart to love a shelter animal and then hopefully, you’ll be moved to stand up for animals by choosing a meat-free or cruelty-free life—or better still, both! Like me!
After adopting Kokoh, life changed so much. I had rabbits for four years but when my family saw Kokoh at SPCA, our hearts melted. She had the sweetest, happiest smile. When we brought her home, she rolled on her back and asked for belly rubs!
My parents are more involved in our lives now; daily conversations revolve around her. They sing praises about how smart she is or cute things she did that day. My family used to laugh at how I speak to my rabbits (aka bunny-talk) but now they do the same to Kokoh!
She also loves to put her butt on our feet. Even outside, she must put her butt on something. She’s still getting used to loud sounds, visitors, and other dogs. Thankfully, she attends Puppy Social classes with her trainer, Angie, and is doing great! As a pawrent, I’ve learnt that you can’t rush dogs. Positive reinforcement has helped Kokoh; the training process is a little longer but good things are worth waiting for.
Adopting a dog companion can be taxing at first. But if you need help, don’t be afraid to seek it! No matter what, you CANNOT break your commitment. For me, my animal companions are no.1 in my life. I’d drop anything for them.”
