As Its The First Monday Of The Month, We Thought W..

As it’s the first Monday of the month, we thought we’d start off with an incredible #furrytailending story to inspire you with. Mayumi was left to fend for herself as a young pup when her mum was sadly poisoned. Luckily a kind lady took her to Soi Dog, and in 2017 she was adopted by the Brindleys. She’s now living her happily ever after in Wales, UK.

“Mayumi has been a major part of our family now for nearly 3 years and when people hear her story of how she came to us from Soi Dog Foundation, I tell them it was the craziest thing we ever did, but it was also one of the best things I have ever done in my life! She is a constant source of pleasure although, during her first few nights in her new home, she was lonely and howled with homesickness but, with lots of love and cuddles, she soon settled down into her new life.

I started dog training classes with her which proved to be great fun. She responded brilliantly to all our homework sessions and after 10 visits she was top of the class! We soon dispensed with her harness and now use a ‘half check’ collar which is great for getting her attention when needed and she can’t ‘slip’ it if something spooks her. We also used a long line lead which offered more freedom and we could catch her if she strayed too far. All I wanted was for her to come when I call her which she does now 99% of the time with a little piece of chicken as a reward!

It gives us so much pleasure to see Mayumi running free and she is never too far behind – even when she hops off into the bushes somewhere to explore she will always come back to us within a few minutes. She has ‘mad moments’ where she runs off steam like crazy around us and then stops dead. She’s a very inquisitive creature, her face full of expression when she is clearly trying to work out what task we might be doing and then wanting to join in. Loves to play with her toys every day and a particular favourite is a ‘squeaky’ ball and that’s if she hasn’t buried it in the garden!

The bond between us didn’t happen overnight and took time to grow. She is one of the most affectionate, loyal dogs I have ever had but still has that lovely ‘wildness’ about her which keeps me on my toes!”
