Birds are good indicators of biodiversity and environmental health. Recognizing this, a bird inventory was conducted by the team from PERHILITAN Terengganu during the SWSE 2020.

Undertaken along a 5km stretch of mangrove and coastal forest on the fringes of Setiu lagoon at Benting Lintang, the inventory employed a combination of methods that included capturing birds using mist nets and detection of birds via calls and direct observations.

Birds captured by mist nets were identified, their measurements recorded, and then the birds were ringed with metal band before being released. About 50 species of birds from 15 families were documented from the 3-day bird inventory.
