From January 29th To February 13th, Were Rememberi..

From January 29th to February 13th, we’re remembering our co-founder Gill Dalley. Join us as we celebrate this remarkable lady and her strength of steel and determination. For the 14 years that she was involved with rescuing animals here in Thailand, Gill faced many personal losses, but she never let any of it stop her from being there for those who needed her.

In 2004, Gill discharged herself from hospital after losing both her legs. A few days later, the Asian tsunami struck, creating despair, chaos and unimaginable loss to countless families in a multitude of affected countries. To make matters worse, Gill found out she had lost her best friend, Leone Cosens, to the tsunami. Leone had worked tirelessly alongside her to care for the rescued animals at Soi Dog Foundation. Instead of shutting herself off and hiding to cope with her own heartache, she decided to be there for those who had lost everything. Gill, then in a wheelchair, spent time at a local hospital helping counsel and comfort the thousands of trauma victims who were piling through its doors.

“They were all in shock. All they wanted to do was to tell their story, cry, be hugged and loved. And I spent my time listening and talking to people. Okay, I don’t know what it’s like physically going through the trauma of actually physically being in the tsunami, but I know what it’s like to go through a trauma, and it was very recent, so that helped me a lot to understand what they were going through,” she said to the Bangkok Post.

This is just a snippet of Gill’s tireless spirit that has helped not only humans but thousands upon thousands of animals here in Thailand and beyond. Her legacy lives on here at Soi Dog Foundation, and we’re thankful that you are part of it.
