It Is Absolutely No Exaggeration To Say That Witho..

“It is absolutely no exaggeration to say that without Gill there would be no Soi Dog today. When she lost her legs in 2004 I was fully prepared to end it then. Gill would have none of it.”
In late 2004, our co-founder Gill Dalley ran into a flooded buffalo field to save a tranquilised dog. She knew that the dog would lose consciousness and drown otherwise. What she didn’t know was that she would contract a rare form of septicaemia in that field that would cost her both lower legs.
Within weeks of the amputation, Gill discharged herself from hospital, determined to continue what she started with Soi Dog Foundation. Her wheelchair was resigned to the storeroom and physiotherapy began.
The stifling heat of Thailand meant Gill’s prosthetics caused her constant pain and discomfort, but in the 12 years she used them, she never complained. As ever, her focus was not on her own suffering but the suffering of the street dogs she loved so dearly.
