In 2010, The Women’s Association of Omadal Island’ (WAPO) was established to nurture local campaigners to address marine conservation issues, such as destructive fishing practices, pollution and turtle egg poaching, with the hope of improving income security amongst the women of Omadal Island. This is achieved through environmental awareness activities, promoting the importance of managing natural resources sustainably and handicraft making.
