Photos From Soi Dog Foundation's Post

Warning: Graphic photo

Our animal rescue officers brought Praipara in at night. Normally, our photographers capture treatment images during office hours, but this poor cat’s maggot wound was so horrific, his vet took a photo herself before she began treating him.

To save cats in dreadful conditions like Praipara’s, will you please join the Care For Cats Club now? https://emergency.soidog.org/careforcats

Because Praipara’s condition is so serious and the poor boy looked so shocking, we hesitated to share his “before” photo. But because we want to show you how needed your donations to the Care For Cats Club really are, and how much good they do, we’ve included it in this post, but not as our featured photo.

Maggots are a terrible problem for homeless animals in the tropical Phuket, Thailand, location where our rescue officers found Praipara. Once an animal gets even a small injury, they invade and make it ever larger by feeding on the area.

It’s a horrible thing for an animal lover to imagine, but so much worse for the poor cat or dog it’s happening to.

Praipara’s maggot wound case is one of the worst we have seen. He was also extremely dehydrated – around 9 to 10 percent. Untreated, this level can quickly cause brain damage, organ failure and death.

Now safe and with his wound taken care of, 7-year-old Praipara still looks very rough, but much better.

Fortunately, he tested negative for both the FIV and FLV viruses, which gives him a much better chance of eventually being adopted.

We are just glad we found this poor boy. He is better, but not out of the woods yet. Praipara is fighting a severe infection our vets are working to keep from spreading to the rest of his body. We will do everything we can for him.

If you love cats and believe no kitty deserves what this one has been through, please, will you join the Care For Cats Club with a small monthly pledge? Click here to join or to make a one-off donation: https://emergency.soidog.org/careforcats

Thank you for caring about homeless cats who have no one.
