We probably won’t ever know exactly what happened to poor Henry here. The 6-year-old was found with a large, awful wound by our community outreach team on their rounds.

This season of giving, will you please help homeless animals like Henry, who don’t have a soul in this world to care but animal lovers like you? https://www.soidog.org/content/give-the-gift-of-life

Even long-time supporters might not be aware of Soi Dog’s mobile community outreach programme. A vet nurse and assistant travel daily to communities all over Phuket.

It’s a win-win: Desperate animals get help, and kind animal lovers are spared the trip to our hospital, which is kept from exceeding capacity.

Henry was lucky our team came along when they did. His fresh wound had not yet attracted maggots, a terrible problem in Phuket’s tropical climate.

Treating animals whose wounds start small, but grow larger and more painful because maggots quickly begin feeding on them, is something our vet staff literally does every day.

Henry is safe at Soi Dog now. His wound has been treated and surgically reconstructed, thankfully with no complications such as old, rotting tissue.

He’s getting pain relief and therapeutic treatment with a wonderful, healing honey from New Zealand that’s been our go-to for a long time.

As they say, timing is everything. For poor Henry, things worked out as well as they possibly could have.

But thousands upon thousands of homeless animals in Thailand aren’t as fortunate. They are out there right now, suffering, with no kind human to help.

Soi Dog is well known in Phuket. While many compassionate local people feed and try to look after homeless animals as best they can, they come to us when there’s nothing more they can do. New cases arrive at our hospital constantly.

Since 2003, we’ve never turned away even one animal who needed us. And we don’t want to ever have to because of a lack of funds.

But with our shelter population consistently at around 1,100 animals, right around capacity, we need your help now more than ever.

It’s the time of year to count blessings and think of those less fortunate. Homeless animals are some of the most vulnerable creatures on Earth. They they face so many dangers, but have so few to care.

Will you please donate now so we can always be there for animals who need us, like Henry? Thank you. https://www.soidog.org/content/give-the-gift-of-life
