Indy’s Updates (firm Stools!)
I found firm (well, only a teeny weeny bit soft) stools at 5.30am today. It was Indy’s for sure, because there was a tiny bit of blood in it and it was in Indy’s spot.
Yesterday, Indy had chicken fillet and Cubgrub, but separately. I noticed that if I mix the two, he will only eat the fillet and leave the Cubgrub. Maybe he just cannot take both at the same time?
Of course that makes absolutely no sense since the chicken fillet is raw and Cubgrub is also raw, but then again, Indy is non-textbook, so I shall respect his decision.
I do know, however, from reliable literature, that we should not mix kibble with canned, or kibble with raw – that would totally upset the digestion. Kibble has carbohydrates and should be given on its own, if one chooses to use it as a food source for cats.
But since 27th Sept 2019, I’ve totally stopped giving kibble to our 8 cats. Also, no more canned food. They are on 100% raw food.
This is why: https://feline-nutrition.org/health/species-inappropriate-the-dangers-of-dry-food
But I do wish to clarify here that I am NOT a cat nutritionist and that everything I know is only learnt from the existing available literature.
I am definitely not qualified to give any advice on cat or dog nutrition. It is always wise to learn from the professionals in their respective fields.
Back to Indy…
If he is not playing, he will be taking his long naps.
I have been updating our vet with photos of Indy’s stools and everything else about Indy. She is pleased with the progress.
Indy is still on steroids now, but it’s a very low dose, acting as an anti-inflammatory.
The fibre product, Fibor, has actually arrived. We shall see if by then, Indy still needs it in his next visit for his Vit B12 jab. I’ve also requested for a urinalysis for Indy in the next visit if we manage to get a urine sample. We have stopped the twice-weekly subcut for Indy because he is not dehydrated and his creatinine was also 115 in the last visit. A possible reason for the decreased creatinine could be that his body was absorbing less protein. However, his total albumin was normal, so this was not the case. I think a urinalysis would help us make a better decision on whether the subcut sessions should continue or not.
We were not able to get urine samples from Pole and Cleo the last time because their bladders were empty. I was supposed to try and sneak up on them to get samples when they urinate, but I would have to get the samples to the clinic within 2 hours. So far, I have not been able to do this yet.
