If you read our posts regularly, you can probably guess what has happened to poor old Nongmouth here. The 10-year-old, who was homeless, somehow got wounded on his mouth and neck. Ever eager to feast on wounded flesh, maggots invaded.
It’s awful, and yes, kind of disgusting to think about. The good news is, Nongmouth is at Soi Dog Foundation now, getting help. To ensure we can keep helping animals like him, please click here to give: https://bit.ly/yes_i_want_to_help_senior_dogs
We know you love animals far too much to just look away when their story is sad or unsavory. For homeless animals in tropical climates like Phuket, Thailand, what happened to Nongmouth is just life.
Please join our Emergency Response team now so old homeless boys like him who get into trouble will have a place to be taken for urgent care. A monthly donation of whatever you can afford will help save dogs like Nongmouth (homeless cats, too).
If you can’t commit yourself monthly, one-off donations are also extremely valuable and appreciated. Every gift helps the approximately 1,100 animals currently in Soi Dog Foundation’s care.
One of our animal rescue officers found Nongmouth near an encampment. He brought him straight to our hospital, where our vets, who see this disaster literally every day, quickly set about extracting the maggots, cleaning the wound, and basically looking after all this boy’s problems.
Like most frightened, hurting animals, Nongmouth was not an easy sell. He had to be sedated by dart to be brought in. But then, when you’re a dog that old and have been on the streets as long as he had, you most likely don’t think humans mean you anything but harm.
Fortunately, as time has gone on, this old guy has become less aggressive, and seems to understand we only want to help him.
Nongmouth is safe in our shelter now and getting care he has needed for we don’t know how long. In addition to the awful wound that’s been cleaned of the maggots, he was infested with ticks – now all gone.
Our vets are monitoring a hematoma on his ear which will likely need surgery. He has a heart arrhythmia he’s being medicated for. He’s mildly depressed (who wouldn’t be?). Our team is attending to all Nongmouth’s issues and making him comfortable.
His wounds are healing nicely, his vet reports. Some necrotic (rotting) tissue has been removed. The old boy is eating well, has a comfortable place to rest after his long, awful ordeal, and will be monitored and treated for any new issues.
Of course, Nongmouth could only be saved because our supporters are dedicated animal lovers who understand that no animal deserves to suffer just because he or she happens to be homeless. They care when no one else does, and deserve to be saluted for that.
Sadly, no government help exists for homeless animals in Thailand, but countless dogs and cats need urgent care. A seemingly endless stream of them come through our doors every week. We are committed to caring for them, but we must ask compassionate people like you for help.
Will you please join the Emergency Response Team now and be a part of the solution for these desperate animals, who literally have no one else to care? Thank you. Click here now to give: https://bit.ly/yes_i_want_to_help_senior_dogs
