October 16th is Global Cat Day, a day born out of a pledge to save cats from being killed unnecessarily and ensure their welfare through education and humane methods to control population, worldwide.

Here at Soi Dog Foundation, Thanks to your generous donations, to this date, over 70,000 cats have been spayed and neutered as well as vaccinated against the deadly Rabies virus.

In addition, the shelter’s intake of cats for treatment has exceeded more than ever with 1400 cats being admitted to the cat hospital, this year alone.

Thanks to our Community Outreach Programme dozens and dozens more free living cats were being looked after in their own territories without the need to take them away from their safety zones.

All these efforts are aligned with the welfare of the cat’s semi-domestic nature in mind, giving them the best care possible and moving away from the traditional concepts of sheltering and rescue, as the only way to help our feline companions.

In some countries, millions of cats and kittens are killed in shelters, more than any other animal.Global Cat Day was created with this in mind by a group of veterinary professionals, cat advocates and cat lovers, to bring awareness and emphasise on the importance of feline life by encouraging humane, non lethal programs to control the population of the domestic cat who are found in nearly every corner of the world.

Global Cat Day demands that community leaders abolish policies that result in the killing of cats; equip communities with lifesaving, humane programmes like Catch-Neuter/Spay-Vaccinate-Release (CNVR) (or Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)) reducing shelter intake; and change any policies that threaten cats’ health and safety.

On this day dedicated to cats everywhere, especially community cats, the rescued cats here at Soi Dog Foundation, want to say Thank You for saving their lives and standing up for cats everywhere.
