Padang Kemunting Has The Highest Number Of Hawksbi..

Padang Kemunting has the highest number of hawksbill turtle landings in Melaka, with the beach contributing around 40% of the nestings in Melaka. In conjunction with International Coastal Cleanup Day on 21 September 2019, WWF-Malaysia, Majlis Perbandaran Alor Gajah, Department of Fisheries, Reef Check Malaysia and Miracle Spectrum joined the global movement by organising a beach cleanup in Padang Kemunting and Pengkalan Balak.

A total of 253 participants comprising university, college and school students took part in the cleanup. From the two kilometre stretch of beach, 82.7 kg of trash was collected, almost half of which was cigarette butts (42.2%). A booth was also set up with games and an educational exhibition on hawksbill turtle conservation.
