My name is Birocka. I’m a 5-year-old boy whom trouble caught quite literally by the tail. I got it badly injured, and then maggots moved in and started eating away at my wound. It was painful and horrible-looking by the time I was found.

Sadly, desperate situations like the one I went through happen to homeless animals almost every minute of every day here in Thailand. Even a small gift can relieve a lot of suffering.

One of Soi Dog’s many helpers in the community found me in agony. I was taken to their hospital to be cared for. But before, there was no one to notice or care about the pain of just one more homeless dog.

It’s the same for thousands – maybe millions — of other animals in Thailand, whether we get our tails (or other parts) hurt, or get sick, abused, or attacked by other animals.

Actually, I used to have an owner. I thought he loved me, but I guess my injury was too much for him to deal with. Or maybe there was some other reason he dumped me. I thought I’d been a good boy, so I really don’t know why he left me all alone in the street.

I do know I was in a lot of pain…and I was scared of all those other dogs out there where I was left to fend for myself. I’d never been homeless and alone before, and didn’t have experience at protecting myself.

I thought no one noticed or cared about me, but I was wrong. That kind person who saw me alone and suffering called Soi Dog about me.

Because humans like you adore animals and feel very strongly that we don’t deserve to suffer on the streets, I ended up at the Soi Dog hospital, where the vets fixed my tail right up. I feel like wagging it again for the first time since it got hurt!

The vets also took care of a skin problem around my private parts that I’d been tormented by. I am resting comfortably now, eating and sleeping well, and feeling loved once again.

If there were no compassionate animal lovers like you to give to Soi Dog Foundation, they could not have helped me. I’d almost surely still be out there, in tremendous pain, struggling to survive. Perhaps I’d even be dead by now. There are so many dangers out there for homeless animals like I was.
