We love when supporters send us updates of their Soi Dogs and Cats! We recently received a lovely email about former Soi Dog, Sammi from her adopter Darcee. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us! It warms our heart to see people taking a chance on our seniors and giving them the life they deserve. Sammi and the Soi Dog team are furever grateful. Please share your #furrytailendings with us by emailing adoptions@soidog.org.
“I am writing to you today to give an update on a little Soi Dog I had the pleasure of adopting 3 years ago. I saw on Instagram you were looking for adoption stories and I would love to share about adopting my senior little lady.
If you were at the shelter from October 2015 – May 2016 you might have met my little old girl. She was called Somjid at that time and now I call her Sammi. Sammi is a poodle mutt mix who had lived on the street with severe dry eye, which had left her blind due to scarring. She also had severe ear infections leaving her deaf. Even with these disabilities, Sam has so much life in her and love to give.
The second I saw Sam’s pictures I knew we were destined to be together. I drove 6 hours across Ontario to meet her, since she had been residing in a foster home. I knew instantly I needed to take her home and love her. After proper vetting from Soi Dog, they knew I was the right adopter and our life journey together started. When I got Sammi she had health issues but we handled them together and it bonded us like no other pair.
Sammi is a special girl. She is gentle and loving and silly. She loves long, slow walks and smelling every smell she can. She loves to meet everyone we can on our walks, and will get excited when she sees (smells) someone she knows. She loves to sleep in until noon and loves to be cuddled and rocked gently while she comes around in the morning, all the while with her tongue hanging out. She loves food and being carried around and sung to, even if she can’t hear me too well she knows she’s being loved. Sammi has touched many lives and has helped me through the difficult times in my life.
Sam is about 13 now, and was estimated to be around 9 when I got her, and has made me an advocate for adopting senior dogs, or dogs with disabilities. Sammi has blessed my life in ways that she will never know, and our bond is special and unique. She knows what it’s like to be alone in the world and values every moment we have together, and I do too. Sammi has recently been given a terminal diagnosis and I am grateful for the days we have left, and for the fact that she gets to live out the end of her life in a loving and safe environment. Adopting and loving an old dog is an amazing, life changing experience. We will be walking our final walks together in the coming months and I am forever changed because of my sweet little Soi Dog.”
