This is a sharing from one of our readers who has successfully nursed a sporo-cat who was in dire straits:
Just read your blog re the Elain’s sporo cat case. Felt really bad for Burt as i did not do anything.
Hope this time it is a different case.
Whatever Elain do DO NOT touch the sore/wound directly without using gloves and by rubbing her entire hands and arms with antiseptic.
Best Providone Iodine. She is young girl. Most vet will not tell you that the sporo virus/spores can cause one become sterile/barren as in human it attacks the human hormon’s glands.
Spray the sore/wound with Magtox spray right away to contain its spread.
Judging from the picture, the cat’s sores in on the nose .i.e. nasal passage; the ‘spores’ might explode and invade the cat’s breathing system. Cause death. It does not make any difference whether the cat is FIV/FVel positive. It takes 50% meds and 50% TLC. Best cause of action is to give aggressive treatment and meds (original meds) so long as the liver is ok and the cat has good appetite.
My cat Morton is the worst sporo case ever; even my vet said that it the manual study case of any medical students.
I do not know the status of the cat now, or what Elain has decided to do. I will on my side talk to my vet today and ask whether she is willing to consult on this matter. I will text you once I get the feedback and we take it from there. If Elain want to care for the cat herself and if my vet agree to consult and provide meds; we will take care of whatever Elain need from our street cats’ petty cash.
Please be advised that the write-up above is a sharing from someone who has had hands-on experience in nursing a very bad sporo-cat case which had recovered very well. It is not veterinary advice.
