A female Indonesian national was yesterday sentenced to one month’s imprisonment after she pleaded guilty to possessing 135 turtle eggs.

Asnawati Ahmad, 60, appeared before Sessions Court Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd alias Mohd Yusoff without being represented by any legal counsel. The jail term takes effect from May 18 – the date of her arrest.

She was arrested by Sarawak Forestry Corporation officers around 9.45am on May 18 when they were conducting a routine check at a parking space in Serikin bazaar.

They found the eggs hidden inside a big black plastic bag which was placed inside a basket.

She failed to produce any Wildlife Controller’s licence to possess these eggs.

Other items seized from her were several other baskets and plastic bags and her social visit pass.
