On World Turtle Day, it’s a sad fact that 61% of the world’s freshwater turtles are at risk of extinction – threatened by habitat destruction, hunting and illegal trafficking.
In Terengganu’s Setiu Wetlands, the Critically Endangered painted terrapin (Batagur borneoensis) is threatened by the poaching of eggs and unsustainable land use.
