Yesterday evening, at about 8.30pm, my friend sent an S.O.S. Courage was panting and breathing heavily with her mouth open. We all know that’s not a very good sign. That started happening about two hours after her meal.
By sheer luck, our vet was still at the clinic attending to cases, so I managed to get him to ask for advice.
As reported by my friend, Courage was having shallow breathing and appeared to panting. The mouth was open. Breathing was fast. Gums was dry. 125 pants per minute. Her temperature was 38.5 degrees. Abdomen not expanding, hence normal chest breathing. CRT slightly delayed. There was mild dehydration using the tugor (pinch) test.
We were contemplating sending her to the emergency clinic already.
Luckily our vet was in, and he said to check for the following:
1. Blueness of tongue – negative
2. Restless respiration or forceful breathing – negative
My friend brought Courage out from the bathroom to her room so that she could have more air (under the fan). Courage settled down and was okay after that. No more breathing with the mouth open.
Phew….that was a relief!
Today, KT will be lending his table fan for Courage’s use when she is in the bathroom.
One day at a time. Baby steps each time.
We also wish to thank Linda Lim for her kind donation towards Courage’s medical needs.
