The Queen Is Definitely Unplonkable

Cleo is the one who needs the fish oil the most. I have been mixing the Ark Naturals fish oil into her food every day, but very often, she doesn’t finish her food.

Here’s Cleo’s daily routine when it is time for meals. She comes and joins everyone, but after the food is served, she must run off to the sandpit to do her business. Then, I have to coax her to come back to eat, which she will, in her own time.

She needs to be invited back to eat.

Then, she sniffs at the food and decides whether you’ve got the menu right for that particular meal or not. If you have, she will eat. If not, she will just run off again. Then, you crack your head and try to figure out what Her Royal Majesty wants to eat. I’m sure she has already communicated to us what she wants but it’s in Cat (language), which is telepathic and of course, we are too dumb to understand it.

This happens at every meal.

Today, I did the same as I would daily – I started with Cubgrub (laced with Ark Naturals fish oil). It took a lot of coaxing to get her to eat some of it, and she did not finish it. Ever since coming back from the vet’s that day, she doesn’t want to eat Cubgrub anymore. I cannot figure out why, but could it be due to what the vet said, that her fur-biting is due to a food allergy and she could very well be allergic to chicken? The vet said to do a food allergy test, we would have to remove chicken ENTIRELY from her diet and give her a different protein. I could only think of fish. But then again, there’s that school of thought that says the cat’s ancestral food is not fish because they originate from the arid deserts in Persia where there was no fish. So, fish may not be a complete-enough food for cats.

The cat is probably saying: Ya think?

There’s another school of thought that says maybe there was water in the “arid deserts in Persia” 50 million years ago which is the time we humans THINK cats began to live on earth where cats evolved from a weasel-like animal called Miacis.

Again, the cat is probably now laughing: Ya think? And watch your words…who are you calling weasel??

So, anyway…..back to Cleo’s story now….

I am not sure just how much of the laced fish oil she consumes, so I wanted to try plonking her the Coatex today. The Coatex is a capsule and from my limited research and after checking with vets, this is one of the best fish oils for cats.

So, I tried and had to stop before I put myself in any danger of rushing to the clinic for a tetanus jab.

Yes, I failed…miserably.  And I did not want to stress Cleo up unnecessarily too.

So, next, I cut open the Coatex capsule and put it in a bowl (without mixing it with food). Cleo was highly suspicious (“What are you giving me now? What poison?”), but she trusted me enough (thank you, thank you) to give it a lick.

Giving it a lick is already heaven-sent.

So took her time to sniff and check that suspicious looking colourless oil in the bowl, but yes, she finally licked up, but only half of it.

Hmm…that is not enough, Cleo.

So I know her latest craze is canned food (but which flavour – that is the million dollar question). I tried Tuna & Chicken and it worked! She ate it all up (mixed with the remaining fish oil in the bowl).

Victory!!  But not 100% because I’d still rather just plonk the entire capsule down her throat but something is better than nothing, I know.

Her Royal Majesty, the Queen.

Everyone in Bunny’s Place is afraid of Cleo. They steer clear of her way. Yes, even Cow.

She is a diminutive 3.3kg, but as my Stretch Therapist says, “Size does not matter.”

THE CAT IN HISTORY

No one knows exactly when or how the cat first appeared on Earth. Most investigators agree, however, that the cat’s most ancient ancestor probably was a weasellike animal called Miacis, which lived about 40 million or 50 million years ago.

Miacis is believed by many to be the common ancestor of all land-dwelling carnivores, including dogs as well as cats. But apparently the cats existed for millions of years before the first dogs. Perhaps best-known of the prehistoric cats is Smilodon, the saber-toothed cat sometimes called a tiger. This formidable animal hunted throughout much of the world but became extinct long ago.

Spot the difference.
