In answer to several questions The mass evacuation involved even more dogs than we thought as others had found small crops of exposed land. Some only a few feet across. Others swim from outcrop to outcrop. WFFT estimate around 250. We could not count them all when rescuing.
The old lady feeds them all going around in a boat. We know by the time night fell there were a handful we could not catch, but the old lady will continue to feed these. She has asked to visit her dogs in Cha Am next saturday which we will arrange. I had thought she could go with them but needs to remain to feed the remaining few. A few people have asked us to pass on money directly to her. I spoke to her yesterday and she confirmed she does not want it. What she would really want is for their original island which is completely submerged and all the shelters destroyed to be rebuilt when the water has gone. She has no idea how this can be done. I have hold her that SDF will rebuild everything better than before, as I know from e mails I have received that our supporters will do this for her. a wonderful lady.
As likely to take 2/3 months before the water gone this has been an expensive exercise with hiring of trucks, building of extra shelters at WFFT, private vet bills for 10 critical cases removed to Bangkok and with 90% of the dogs suffering from pneumonia and other ailments, the coming week will see large food and medicine bills. No idea of final cost but will be at least 500,000thb. or 17,000$ At 2,000 the per dog I think money well spent. John.
