After 2 twenty hour+ days the dogs at the temporary sanctuary known as Dog Island have been moved from Dog Island to the mid term shelter at Wildlife Friends of Thailand (WFFT) in Cha Am. The flood waters navigated were very deep contributing to the difficulties of moving 200+ dogs many of the wilder ones having to be caught with nets.
Many thanks to the Thai Army for deploying 10 troops as well as rescue trucks to help with the extraction and of course the volunteers who helped.
It was dark when we left the bridge for the last time and very eerie seeing it empty. We estimate approaching 200 dogs have been removed from the bridge and the tiny islands close by. All had to be ferried to road about away on small boats neccesitating several round trips.
.
Many of the dogs will require medical treatment in either Bangkok private clinics or at the WFFT shelter.
