Below is a poignant and touching sharing by Connie James. What happened to Buddy and now, to Courage, only goes to show how very important it is for us to participate in CNRM and encourage others to do so as well. Spay-Neuter is about the most compassionate and doable method I know of to control the population of street animals and reduce the suffering on the street.
Thank you for the sharing, Connie. I am sure Buddy is now at Rainbow Bridge, smiling and playing happily with his friends, the birds.
Dear Dr Chan,
When I read about Courage’s plight, I remembered my construction site dog, Buddy.
Buddy was born in my construction site in Bukit Kayu Hitam Kedah in Nov 2008. He was a loving dog. Accidentally hit by one of my supervisor’s car but miraculously survived; thanks to the only Vet in Alor Star. The supervisor apologised to Buddy many times he was brought back to the site after 7days recovering at the Vet.
The second accident happen in March 2009. For days he was missing & when one of my site supervisor found him & brought him back to the site, he looks septic, his leg was broken & dangling (hit & run at the highway, nearby my construction site). I brought him back to the same Vet in Alor Star but Buddy didnt make it. I was with him when he passed away. All that I remember telling him that its okay, you may go to the lights..that place have many birds for you to chase (he loves to chase birds catching fish in the pond). Buddy licked my finger and passed away while looking straight at me. The Vet shed his tears when he announced Buddy was gone.
I brought him back for burial at the Site. Eventhough my site is of muslim majority but they also feel sad for Buddy. All the supervisors shed tears eventhough they tried to hide it.
This donation to Courage is on behalf of Buddy, our loving dog. He is now happily running chasing birds at the rainbow bridge.
May Courage survive this ordeal and live happily again.
Regards,
Connie James
