Can you see the Orangutan nest on top of a tree surrounded by oil palm? Recently, WWF-Malaysia’s Sabah Orangutan team conducted recce surveys and interviewed oil palm plantation owners adjacent to the Bukit Piton, a Class 1 Forest Reserve, to understand and record orangutan’s persistence in plantations.
During the recce, the team spotted an orangutan nest built on top of an isolated Laran tree surrounded by oil palm. This suggests that planting tree species used by these apes can help to improve and support orangutan dispersal in oil palm-dominated landscape.
