BBC Reporters have visited Dog Island and this report is now on live on the BBC website - Dogs Face Killer Disease After Thai Floods
Please await further information from SDF on the FULL status of the situation as the report has been edited and commented on by their team after they have returned to their office using footage taken on the day, their added studio commentary leads viewers to believe that the distemper outbreak is confirmed and that the island is in effect a quarantine area and dogs will not be removed to stop the spread of the disease.
This is NOT the case at the moment!!
When doing the interview Distemper was suspected as the symptoms shown were similar, however without a vet on the bridge and tests to confirm, it was still unconfirmed.
At this point in time 7 sick animals with symptoms have been taken from the island and brought to our isolation area at S71 in Bangkok, they have been tested and at this point in time the tests are NEGATIVE for Distemper, SDF is also sending a vet out to Dog Island to further assess the situation and test more dogs.
We Hope this is a good sign and that there is no outbreak imminent on the bridge - We need some Good News for a Change.
We Will Keep you updated during the course of the next few days.
Volunteers rescue and shelter abandoned dogs but say many will end up dying.
