Why buy a pet when you can adopt one from the street or the many shelters around us? Or, go to the many websites and facebook pages which are advertising pets for adoption (like us!) and choose one from there.
Here’s a sharing by Rayna, of her beloved “pets”. They are all former street cats, from different backgrounds. Now, Rayna looks after them.
Read her story:
They used to be my neighbor’s cat. As far as I know, they stopped feeding the cats already leaving them in the streets. Well, I don’t really know their stories but then, I took care of them. They would come to my house frequently to eat their meal. Tabby used to have a MPSJ tag but recently it have been missing and he hardly comes, I took care of him twice. He is very random but loving. He is like Aristocat! Spotty is a stray and I make friends with him and now he also comes around to take his meals. Brownie is the sibling that my sis and I rescue from another neighbor dog. Was gonna bite her but we swoop her up and threw her to our house. After that, we develop a loving bond.
Aslan (the Indy look-alike) is the most frequent one who comes to our house. All the cats in this pictures are the few of them that I develop bonds with. I have many more outside but then they are all strays and my mom would not let me bring them back home. So the least I can do is feed them leftovers from my plate. ( usually they are all around those restaurant.) and to talk with them as well as patting them showing a little love. I hope that with my this message, they would not give up their hopes about humans and know that actually there are some few humans who are kind and good too. I can only do a little now but then I wish to do more when I am adult and have my own place to stay I really admired you after reading the book about Indy. You have a very kind heart and passion to love all this animals
This one has Bunny markings.
This looks a bit like Tiger.
This must be Aslan. He looks like Indy.
Yes, it is an Indy look-alike!
Street animals are usually more hardy than pedigrees because of their mixed genes. It’s like humans – the more different genetic codes you have, the more intelligent, healthy and beautiful you are supposed to be! That is why our former PM encouraged mixed marriages. Street animals may be less prone to breed-specific diseases and disorders, too, and this is especially true of dogs. Streets dogs are so much easier to manage than pedigrees.
So, adopt a street animal. Don’t buy.
