Vincent’s Day

5.22am

Vincent came to sleep next to me at 2.30am and that woke me up, but I managed to get back to sleep. He hasn’t done this for a long time now, so I hope it’s a sign of his confidence (and hopefully, wellbeing).

We came downstairs at 4am and Vincent looked hungry, so I quickly opened a can of Monge (hoping to “hit it right” with the flavour).

Yes, I did!!

It was Monge’s Chicken with Omelette and White Bait, and Vincent ate…instantly!

I noticed he loves gravy, and Monge doesn’t have as much gravy as Cindy’s, so I quickly starting mashing up the chicken shreds so that it becomes more pasty. It’s the taste that matters the most now – we need to keep it interesting so that it entices him to eat.

Tabs, Ginger and Heidi also came, so they had the same food as well.

I tried Monge’s Seafood with Chicken and that worked as well – Vincent ate!

Then, I placed a few pieces of homecooked steamed chicken into his plate and no, “that ship has sailed for now”. So, okay.

Normally, Vincent doesn’t eat much at 4am. He normally likes to eat at 6am or 7am. He is probably hungry because he vomited some food out last night.

He went back upstairs after eating. At least he has eaten something for the day now.

The vet says she feeds Vincent only twice a day at the clinic, so maybe I can do the same as well. Let’s see how things go. The most important thing is that he eats.

7.00am

I had to feed him his meds single-handedly today. Managed to use the pill-popper for the Azodyl, but the Clindamycin through the syringe was very difficult. Vincent’s gums were also bleeding this morning. I hope it’s the rotten tooth falling out on its own. I cannot check as he won’t allow me to handle his mouth.

This reminds me of the time when Heidi was bleeding and foaming at the mouth one evening. It must have been so painful that it literally turned her into a “monster”. She fled from the house and ran away to almost 4 houses up the road. We even bought a butterfly net, hoping to catch her with it as I was worried she had ingested poison. All our attempts failed miserably. I was all prepared that Heidi would go off somewhere “to die” if indeed she had ingested poison. Luckily, by midnight, she came back by herself and slept on the sofa in the living room. It was a bad tooth – that’s all. By then, it had fallen out and all was well. What a great relief that was!

2.10pm

Lunch time! Vincent came into the kitchen, but whatever I offered seemed “wrong”, so he went away. I decided to put him in the cage and leave the food with him.

He’s eating!! I didn’t even dare move a muscle. That’s steamed chicken.

I tried a bowl of Cindy’s chicken and tuna and he ate that as well.

I even ordered Cindy’s mackerel and thankfully, it arrived today, but Vincent didn’t want that.

Subcut at 5pm. Now, Vincent fidgets after about 150ml, so I give him a short rest and we do the rest of the 100ml on the other side.

I haven’t given him his evening meds yet. Please wish me luck.
