From Insight Sabah:

Sharks evolved 400m years ago to keep oceans healthy. As predators, they rule the underwater world. But they are losing a battle against man. The latest score: Sharks have killed 13 people so far this year. Man kills 73m of them every year largely for their fins which are turned into a culinary delicacy in Asia. Now environmentalists are stepping up a worldwide campaign to stop people from eating them. And Sabah may become the first in Asia to ban shark hunting next year.

Apparently, 98% of sharks in South East Asia have been killed. But the best news is that the Sabah government has banned sharks’ fin soup from all its luncheons and dinners.

If you know how cruel the process of finning a shark is, don’t eat sharks’ fin soup, folks. Just boycott it. Soon enough, people will get the message and this dish will be a thing of the past.

For some people, it’s all about preserving the ecosystem, ensuring that sharks do not go extinct or protecting the tourism industry.

For us, it is all about compassion.

Hence, remember that other animals also suffer just as much in abattoirs all over the planet.

So whether it is sharks’ fin soup, bak kut teh or chicken curry, please eat less meat.
