Vincent Is Not Eating

I’m sorry I have to share bad news this morning. Vincent is refusing food.

He spent the whole night at the patio. This morning, I made boiled chicken for him and included the parts he likes, but he did not want to eat anything. His last meal was yesterday morning.

I even locked Ginger up in the room before serving Vincent so that Ginger won’t be a source of intimidation for him. But that did not work too.

Last night, I discussed with the vet if IV-drip might help Vincent feel better and she agreed that it might. Vincent does not drink water on his own, and he fights violently even if I tried to syringe some water into his mouth. I already don’t even open his mouth. I just place the syringe on his lips since he refuses to open his mouth. He is even refusing water.

Despite the 250ml subcut daily, Vincent is getting dehydrated. The fluid loss through urination probably cannot even be compensated by the 250ml subcut anymore, so IV-drip seems a necessary option. This means Vincent would have to be hospitalised.

If staying home is just making him deteriorate further and causing him much discomfort due to dehydration, then I think we have to consider the IV-drip. At least he would have a vet to look after him in his medical needs.

I have yet to decide as I am awaiting the vet’s advice.

At this time, Reinhold Niebuhr’s Serenity Prayer holds true:

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time (oh, how so true indeed), accepting hardships as the pathway to peace.
