This November, be serenaded by a stellar line-up of local musicians while lending a helping paw to furry friends in need at Wag ‘N’ Roll, a charity fund-raising event in support of Paws Mission, a volunteer-run animal shelter.
Saturday, 19th November 2011, at the Annexe Gallery, Central Market KL, with a goal to raise awareness among the public about stray animals and animal welfare in a fun, entertaining, and casual setting.
While the plight of animals is often raised in the media, animal welfare is still largely regarded with apathy and indifference among the general public, and Wag ‘N’ Roll is just one of many efforts to change this.
The line-up of Malaysian talents include prominent names such as Atilia, Lokman Aslam, ROARM and more, in hopes of engaging today’s generation of culturally-aware and discerning urbanites with a message of caring for our four-legged friends.
There will also be magic shows and the highlight of the event: a special theatrical performance.
Interestingly, Wag ‘N’ Roll was initiated by TiangArt Project, a several Muslims who run an event management company, while the Paws Mission shelter, whom the event will benefit, houses only dogs and is run by a majority of Malaysian Chinese.
The message this collaboration hopes to send out is twofold: that kindness to animals is an imperative that goes beyond culture, race, or creed and hinges on the basic human value of compassion; and that in order to make a difference we must put aside our differences and work together.
The organizers hope that this event will help to educate the Malaysian public on the importance of animal welfare and encourage Malaysians to care for animals and each other, while raising urgent funds for Paws Mission’s shelter relocation in 2012.
Paws Mission is currently located on land that is slated for development next year, and will need to relocate before development commences in 2012 (date has yet to be confirmed). The shelter requires urgent funding to relocate or, alternatively, a donation of land, in order to continue operating.
The public-funded shelter currently houses more than 150 dogs and puppies and has successfully rehomed more than 250 dogs.
