Vincent almost finished his Fortekor and previously, even after a month on Fortekor, his proteinurea did not improve. So I decided that we should try Semintra especially when much good results have been touted with its use. Most vets say it works better than Fortekor, so let’s see if that works for Vincent too.
This tiny 30ml bottle costs a whopping RM236. It comes with a syringe that has calibrations in the weight of the cat and not in ml, which makes it so much easier for the user.
The vet also advised that since Vincent’s kidney disease is already at the “end stage”, there is a chance Semintra might not make a difference to his protein loss. I totally understand this, but I would still have to try. If it could even prevent a small measure of protein loss, that’s good enough. Then, perhaps Vincent wouldn’t have to eat so much and so often to maintain his weight at 3.8kg. Right now, his protein loss is so massive, but being the soldier that he is, he eats often and as much as he can. With such stoic efforts on his part, how can I, as his caregiver, not do the utmost for him, right?
Money can be earned back, but moments, once gone, can never be bought back.
The vet, in the kindness of his heart, did say that while Semintra is formulated for cats, there is also another medication to control protein loss in dogs, which is more economical. They have found that it works for cats too. I could opt for this as well. We shall see how it goes.
I was advised to take Vincent for a UPC test just before this bottle of Semintra finishes to gauge if it’s effective.
I was unable to purchase Epakitin online, so I’ve opted for the alternative option of using chitosan as a phosphate binder.
This is yesterday’s subcut photo.
For many weeks, I had not been able to do the subcut on his left side, so all were done only on the right side. But yesterday, I managed to do it on the left side without much resistance from Vincent. I’m supposed to alternate the sides.
This is Vincent having his lunch today – he started with a wee bit of Cindy’s chicken, followed by a whole lot of Primal and ended with a whole lot of RC renal kibble (which seems to be “in fashion” for now).
I don’t know if it’s coincidental, but Vincent seemed very markedly cheerful and happy since yesterday (we also started the Semintra yesterday). I think Vincent is very sensitive and perceptive of my feelings and he “mirrors” them. I was very hopeful that the Semintra will perform, as it is reputed to. Let’s hope that comes true.
Meanwhile, Vincent weighed 3.8kg today, but that was after lunch. Guess we will never hit 4.0kg, but it’s alright. Maintaining at 3.8kg is already a blessing. The vet also said that 3.8kg is actually a healthy weight for a DSH cat. “You don’t want a fat cat”, he said.
You hear that, Ginger?
LOL!
