Vincent’s News

I now know why Vincent has bad breath again. I spotted an ulcer at the tip of his tongue.
Sigh…
His mouth ulcers is an auto-immune disease and also related to his kidney failure.
Thankfully he can still eat. And this also explains why he is playing the staring game again. Maybe at times, he has trouble eating certain foods and that is why he keeps staring at me until I get it right.
It is okay, Vincent. We will try to make it work, somehow. I’m doing my best to read your mind.
I already texted the vet to ask if there is anything we can do now that the mouth ulcers seem to be coming back. I just hope we can keep it under control. I wish I could try the golden paste (turmeric with coconut oil and black pepper) but feeding it to Vincent would be a huge problem. Now, he doesn’t even like the ear cream (and that’s not even anything oral). He is only okay with Fortekor (I think it tastes good). He hates the antacid tablet.
Meanwhile, breakfast was at 4.30am this morning and it was a good one…for everyone!
I have to get up early these days because there’s just so much to do in a day. Yes, making time while the sun shines!
For breakfast today, to play it safe, I started with Cindy’s Tender Chicken.
Then, it was on to Primal Turkey. A few days ago, when I restarted all of them on Primal, they didn’t like Turkey. They only liked Chicken & Salmon, but I wanted some protein rotation for them, so I persevered and added a wee bit of Turkey each time.
Initially, Tabs would even walk away from the Turkey. She LOVES Chicken & Salmon and would forget all her manners and steal a nugget, run away to a “secret place” and eat it “secretly”. That’s how much she loves it. But not Turkey.
Tabs: Nope, I don’t eat turkey, I only eat birds.
But Tabs, the turkey IS a bird.
Tabs: No, I only eat birds.
But today, everyone went for the turkey. If I may say so, we achieve “turkey success” today.
After a scoop of Cindy’s canned chicken, it was rehydrated Primal Turkey.
And for Vincent, it ended with Cubgrub’s rabbit (of which he isn’t too interested now). If Vincent doesn’t want it anymore (and it’s already defrosted), I would have to rely on Bunny totally to “vacuum” it up.
With Vincent, I’ll just have to keep rotating the food. It’s so crucial that he eats when he is still able to eat.
I actually count my blessings that Vincent is able to eat. I know some CKD cats have no appetite anymore and that would be a nightmare.
So, Vincent ate like a horse this morning. He had Cindy’s chicken, Primal Turkey, Primal Chicken & Salmon and Cubgrub’s rabbit – four proteins in one meal.
I am so thankful.
Primal Turkey for everyone at the pantry. Cleo did not even do her usual eat-a-bit-then-run-off-to-poop business. She finished her share and even asked for more. Indy too – he’s very choosy, but he licked his bowl clean. As for Bunny, I gave him some Cubgrub Rabbit because I needed his “help” to finish the defrosted bottle!
So, it’s Primal season now…but don’t know for how long!
I shall keep rotating whenever the need arises.
An uneventful subcut session today. I’m doing 250ml these days but Vincent is still a bit dehydrated. That’s “normal” for a CKD cat, I was told.
But no meatloafing.
The vet says I can give Orozyme twice a day and see if it helps the new ulcer on the tip of the tongue.
Meanwhile, my order of 3 bottles of probiotics (Mercola’s) arrived a few days ago. All my cats are on this.
As for Vincent, I hope this helps bring down his urea readings. He hates Azodyl and it’s impossible to feed it to him, so the vet said to stop it first. Mercola’s probiotics has many strains and also has two of the three strains in Azodyl.
I hope it helps.
