Making Time While The Sun Shines – An Appeal

You might remember that “Make Time While the Sun Shines” is the title of a book I wrote in 2011 (wow, has it been seven years ago already?).

The above is the e-book and one chapter had been thoroughly edited upon the advice of a friend. But the hardcopy still has all the original stories.

Anyway, that’s exactly what I have been doing since August. You might have noticed that there is massive fundraising now. There are a few reasons for this.

Firstly, of course, we NEED to raise funds. Sorry for being repetitive, but for the benefit of those who are reading this for the first time, we have been experiencing a shortfall of at least RM5000 every month since last year. So, we have been using our reserves to cover this shortfall.

Secondly, the number of applicants have risen steadily, particularly when SENS (under PAWS) and SFS stopped providing their respective subsidies. Their applicants (many of whom were formerly our applicants plus many new ones, thanks to their publicity) came to us. While SENS and SFS only provided for Selangorians, we service those from other states as well as ours is opened to the whole of Malaysia. So, even if Selangorians can apply to other organisations, we still have to service those from other states – we have applications from Pahang, Johor, Perak, etc.

Thirdly, some of you might know that I fall sick every year and when I’m sick, it is very difficult for me to raise funds actively. My last sickness lasted from December 2017 to August 2018 and that’s when you would only see neutering posts, just to report whatever we have given out. That’s when I’m down and out.

So, now that I’m NOT down-and-out, I have to do everything I can to raise as much funds as possible to last through the “rainy days”.

Making hay while the sun shines, so the saying goes. I’m literally doing that!

So, please forgive the “sudden” massive fundraising activities. I have to do this so that AnimalCare can survive. And I have to do this now because I am well now. I don’t know when I would fall sick again. It is unfortunate that I have to live with this ailment, but hey, you cannot have everything in life, right?

I know economically, times are still very bad and everyone has to tighten your purse strings.

But street animals will always need help, regardless of whether the economy is up or down. We are FAR from reaching the stray-free equilibrium. Very, very, very far. It might take us a few hundred more years before that can be achieved. Meanwhile, rescuers simply cannot stop their work. If they do, new litters will be born and you know how the street animal population increases exponentially.

I would like to make a personal appeal to everyone who is reading this. If you believe that street animals deserve to be helped through neutering and you trust that every sen of donations that we receive is given to their rescuers, then would you be willing to part with RM10 per month?

All we need is 500 people to donate RM10 per month each, and we will be able to raise the RM5,000 shortfall that we need so badly.

We can most probably raise RM10,000 a month from our regular donors and ongoing fundraising activities, but we are still short by at least RM5,000, based on the overwhelming applications that we have been receiving so far.

For example, as of today, for these 28 days in October 2018, we have paid out RM16,310 for the neutering of 216 animals. We are currently short by RM8,914.00, which we will cover from our reserves. But how long can our reserves last?

We would also like to extend this appeal to past applicants whom we have helped before, current applicants (some of you have received thousands from us, so would you be able to part with just RM10 a month?) and our dear friends and supporters.

Thank you.
