We live on a sunny island and in light of the recent heat wave, with temperatures hitting a high of 35 degrees, the last thing we want is for our pets to suffer a heatstroke. What can we do to help our pets beat the heat?
Here are some tips:
• Ensure that your pets have access to drinking water at all times. Remember to bring along a water bottle when you are walking your dog to keep it hydrated.
• Walk your dog during cooler parts of the morning, evening, or even at night. Always monitor your dog’s condition when you are on a walk.
• An immediate tell-tale sign of dehydration is when the animal is panting and salivating heavily. You should provide ice cold water immediately to prevent dehydration, followed by a cold bath to prevent heat injury if necessary.
