International Homeless Animals Day
Tweet |
Yesterday, 18th August, was “International Homeless Animals Day”.
Our friend, ardent supporter and dedicated rescuer, Dr Veeranoot, who is now back home in Thailand, sent this image below.
Doesn’t it break your heart to think of what might happen to all these innocent little puppies who are born on the street if they do not have the rare good fortune of being adopted, everywhere in the world (except for the Netherlands that have achieved the zero-stray status for dogs (they still have free-roaming cats))?
Homeless animals outnumber homeless humans 5 to 1.
Every year, in the US alone, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats) are euthanised. This number was 2.6 million in 2011.
Every day is a good day to support the neutering of street animals.
That is what we have been doing, literally, every single day, for the last nine-and-a-half years.
Hopefully, we have enough support to continue doing this until such a day when our community achieves zero-stray status.
One can hope.
More importantly, one can do.
