WWF-Malaysia Sarawak Conservation Programme recently held a perception survey to understand communities’ views towards mangrove ecosystem, Irrawaddy dolphin and fish distribution in the Rajang-Belawai-Paloh delta area from 3 to 6 July 2018.
The data collected is part of a larger survey-based research project that is being conducted by WWF-Malaysia in collaboration with Inland Fisheries Division of Agriculture Department, Forest Department Sarawak, Sarawak Forestry Corporation and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak.
This project is funded by Nagao Wetlands Fund, RAMSAR. It was a great week for all as surveyors and villagers get to learn more from each other on the importance of mangrove and possible negative impacts to riverine and marine ecosystem if we lose our mangrove forests.
