If you remember, Jackie is the little kitten who went into an abandoned shoplot in Melaka and we tried desperately to source for help to get her out. Finally, the owner came (after a few days), and Catherina managed to get Jackie out. We even went as far as getting the politicians to help because (unfortunately) humans laws do not apply to animals. They would break in to rescue a human child, but not an animal.
Sometime last month, Catherina wrote to say Jackie fell ill. Cath has brought Jackie to two vets now, and she has been under treatment but she isn't getting any better.

From Catherina yesterday:
Jackie health is deteriorating day by day. She has stopped eating since last Sunday. I brought her to another vet on Monday. Dr never suspected anything and also Dr said she is having flu. Instead of prescribing her with more antibiotic, Dr gave a pre-biotic and some multi vit and I was informed that Jackiehas been on antibiotic for a period of time therefore she needs to boost up her own immune system in order to well. I force feed her with AD since Wed. She lost alot of weight. I was very sad to see her condition now. Today, I brought her to the vet she boarded when I was away on 19-22 Oct. The vet, Dr Kawitha said Jackie doesnt look good to her. Jackie was ok when I brought her to the clinic last Saturday for review 1 week after her last visit to the vet. Dr also said Jackie developed jaundice which is not a good sign. Dr wants to do FELV/FIV test on Jackie, and I said OK. Dr shaved a small part on Jackie's hand and poke the needle in. Dr was able to take just enough blood for the test. Jackie is very pale and anaemic now. PoorJackie. She meowed. It must be very pain for sure. The result turned out to be negative. Then Dr said she wants to prick Jackie's ear for some blood to check if there is any parasites presence in her blood. A little blood was taken and was put on the slide and put under the microscope. There are indeed parasites. Shaped like a small comma staying inside the red blood cells. The number white blood cell is also lower than a normal healthy cat. Dr told me it is Hemobart. Dr prescribed a liver tonic for the jaundice, tablet for her anemia, and antibiotic for the parasites infection. Dr would like to do a full blood screening on Tuesday as they will be closed on Sunday and next Monday. She said she will not be able to withdraw 3ml of blood for the screening now from Jackie. She advised me to force feed Jackie food and plenty of water. I really hope Jackie will get well. I always talked to her. I told her to be strong and fight for it. I also told her that I want to see the old Jackie, active and playful Jackie.
Cath
We have offered our medical subsidy and I have suggested to Catherina to bring Jackie to one of our vets in the Klang Valley for a third opinion.
Meanwhile, let us all pray for Jackie's recovery.
Get well soon, Jackie. We are all rooting for you.
Be strong, Catherina. We are rooting for you, too.
Here's something on Hemobart: http://www.petplace.com/cats/feline-infectious-anemia-hemobartonellosis/page1.aspx
It is Feline Infectious Anaemia and its full name is Hemobartonellosis. The parasite is probably caused by ticks, fleas or mosquitoes. Hence, flea control like FrontLine, Advocate or Revolution is essential to lower the risk of infection.
Possible treatment includes blood transfusion, antibiotics or steroids.
I'm consulting our vets for an opinion and will convey whatever information I have to Catherina so that she would have more options.
Please pray for Jackie.
