"Rescue Abandoned Animals Project" Launch - 20th April 2018

“Rescue Abandoned Animals Project” is a fundraising project organized by The Hope Factory Malaysia to promote awareness on abandoned pets with the involvement of independently managed shelter homes in support of Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA) Selangor, a non-profit organization that provides temporary shelter to strays or unwanted animals mainly cats and dogs that are no longer desired by their owners. The objective of this partnership is to educate the public on spaying and neutering strays through SPCA’s initiative “Stray Free Selangor” – a campaign that promotes spaying or neutering stray cats and dogs where SPCA subsidises up to 80% of the cost through public donations to control the strays population instead of the catch-and-kill method.

Throughout April 2018 to July 2018, Rescue Abandoned Animals Project kicks off on 20 April 2018 with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between The Hope Factory Malaysia and Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA) Selangor, the launch of “Hopeful Ramadhan Benefit” an effort to raise funds for “Stray Free Selangor” by selling buka puasa buffet dinner tickets and will close off the project with a rescued cat competition show on the 28 July 2018 where 10 shelter homes will participate to promote adoption.

“Hopeful Ramadhan Benefit” which will be held on 2 June 2018 is organized to raise funds for SPCA Selangor by selling dinner tickets to 300 people and will be priced at different categories. Platinum table for 10 people is priced at RM5,000.00, gold table at RM2,500.00, silver table at RM1,000.00, single dining ticket at RM50.00 or the public can also sponsor meals for five underprivileged children from various non-governmental organizations around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor at RM250.00. Through the collection of the buffet dinner tickets, 50% of the proceeds goes back to “Stray Free Selangor” campaign.

To reduce the amount of strays in shelter homes and promote adoption, The Hope Factory Malaysia invites ten non governmental animal shelter homes to participate in a rescued cat competition on 28 July 2018 where cats from independently managed shelter homes will display their cats to promote pet adoption. Different winning categories including kitten and adult domestic short and long hair and cash prizes to be won to ease the shelter home’s financial burdens. All the participating cats are available for adoption.

The collective effort by The Hope Factory and Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA) Selangor is to empower our community to make a stand for the defenseless animals by creating public awareness on abandonment which is the biggest contributing factor to strays and educate owners on their responsibility of spaying and neutering pets and encouraging pet adoption instead of buying to help and change our city’s pet population.
