4 MARMOSET MONKEYS RESCUED FROM THE ILLEGAL WILDLIFE TRADE
Just yesterday, four black-tufted marmoset monkeys were found abandoned in a carrier, a tupperware and a nest box at a clinic’s door step. One of them had escaped from the carrier. Thanks to the staff at Animal Recovery Veterinary Referral Center for alerting us quickly, our rescue team managed to rescue all of them after over an hour of struggle. There were heart-stopping moments when the escaped marmoset ran to the roads.
Marmoset monkeys are prohibited from being sold or kept as pets in Singapore. As wild animals with complex needs, they do not make suitable pets. On top of being smuggled, kept in captivity, possibly bred (there was a baby in the tupperware), these four had to also go through abandonment and resulting distress.
