ACRES Repatriation Of Boltz, Audrey, Andrea, Ayu, ..

[REPATRIATION]

THEY’VE COME A LONG WAY.

Monday, 16 April 2018, the day six survivors of the illicit wildlife trade finally laid their footprints on their home ground. Residing at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre collectively for over 10 years, with battle scars and wounds that needed attention, seeing them in their natural habitat and letting them go sure was hard.

Boltz, a giant Asian pond turtle and star of the Wildlife Sanctuary for almost 7 years, known for his lightning bolt scar, seemed to savour the moment before he ventured forth with deliberate steps into the stream, curious of little fishes swimming by him. Fellow species and ex-neighbours Audrey and Ayu sprang into the water while Andrea was hesitant and kept to the rocks for a while.

Comot, an elongated tortoise, took off straight into the night whereas Comel, ex-roommate, absorbed his new environment before his exploration.

As the saying goes, “Teaching a child not to step on a caterpillar is as valuable to the child as it is to the caterpillar.” We’ve come a long way too, working out in a small room in 2001 to date with 160 wild animals in our care, and each one of them matters to us, from their little injuries and cheeky antics, to their welfare and freedom.

We really need your help to continue the work we do. Please join our annual Charity Gala so we can give a louder voice to the animals: https://www.giving.sg/acres/charitygala2018
