Update From Cindy & Derek who are volunteering in Bangkok and surrounds

The water is still rising, we've been through flooded areas of Bangkok today, that weren't flooded yesterday. The rescue trip we were involved with yesterday involved a 4 hour journey on the back of a truck to a place called "Dogs Island". This is an island in the middle of a huge temple complex, approx 300acres in size. The area is so large that a local guide is needed to navigaate to "Dogs Island". The dogs have lived on this island & been fed by locals for years. When the flood came, the water kept rising & the island kept getting smaller until reaching the island to feed the dogs became very difficult. When the dogs became hungry they swam away from the island looking for food. The flood waters are now 2 mtrs deep & a lot of the dogs who went looking for food became stranded on the roofs of submerged buildings or clung to partially submerged trees. As a result many of them have become tangled in reeds & vines.

Rescue boats have been searching the area, finding these dogs & putting them on a partially submerged bridge which still has a section approx 60mtrs long above the water line. There are now approx 100 dogs living on this bridge & volunteers are taking food to them daily. As volunteer boats approach the bridge, several dogs swim out to meet them. When the boats leave at dusk, the dogs howl as they know they're being left behind. There is still a small piece of land near the bridge that's not submerged & the volunteers have built a floating walkway out of polystyrene from the bridge to the land. The aim at the moment is to keep the dogs fed, so they don't swim away looking for food. Taking the dogs off the bridge is difficult, as there is no where to put them.
