Happy Dolphin Day From Sarawak!

Happy Dolphin Day! Did you know that dolphins are also found in the Rajang-Belawai-Paloh delta in Sarawak?
WWF-Malaysia Sarawak Conservation Programme is working together with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) and Department of Agriculture Sarawak to conduct the dolphins survey in this delta area. This project is funded by Nagao Wetlands Fund, RAMSAR.
In our last survey on 2nd to 4th April 2018, we were delighted to observe mother dolphins swimming together with their calves at several locations.
This indicates that the Rajang-Belawai-Paloh area is a core habitat for the Irrawaddy dolphins.
The healthy mangroves found here provide breeding grounds for fish, an important food source for the dolphins.
Let’s value our mangroves and our dolphins! They are one of Sarawak’s most adorable flagship species! Irrawaddy dolphins (Orcaella brevirostris) belong to the wild and healthy environment. Keep the mangroves intact!
