Update from our wildlife rescue centre, the dog shelter at our temple and
the dog shelter at Cha-am that we currently run;
At this moment we have about 280 dogs and cats and one monkey under our care at the temple and the Cha-am quarantine centre. Trying to get all organised and set up properly but as the animals keep on coming in we have a really hard time to cope at the moment. Animals are brought in sometimes with prior message but some people just show up with a few dogs or cats. Last three days dogs and cats arrived at resp. 4.30AM, 2.00AM and last night midnight and 3.00AM so we are not only having tough days work, but also sleepless nights. I expect to take in at least 100 more dogs in the coming 3-4 days. We are ready to use the wildlife hospital at our wildlife rescue centre to
treat, spay and check incoming animals now once the medication has
arrived. Currently have now 3 extra volunteers and one volunteer vet here
to help out.
The origin of the animals (estimated numbers) 145 Ayutthaya, 85 Central
Bangkok, 50 Northern Bangkok and Pathumthani.
Dogs are rescued by WFFT in Ayutthaya, lots of dogs from Khun Bee in
Bangkok, Khun Toon in Rangsit and ENP (elephant Nature Park) team in
Lamlukka, Margot in Lard Prao.
We are now moving dogs in to enclosures we are building ourselves at our
"temple field" where we have 90 dogs as the quarantine centre is now
filled up. Each of these tents once finished (see picture) can hold up to
8-12 dogs for a few weeks if necessary. We expect we need to keep the
animals here for at least 2-3 weeks more to come.
